Telefauna and TONTO, together at last?

Last thursday I got to meet one of my scholarly idols, Trevor Pinch. Trevor works at Cornell and is famous for authoring Analog Days: The Invention and Impact of the Moog Synthesizer as well as The Social Construction of Technological Systems: New Directions in the Sociology and History of Technology. The latter being one of my fave tools for conducting material cultural analysis, fo sho. He was giving a lecture at McGill on the history of the Moog and we got to talking over beers afterwards. Get this: he might help us bring Malcolm Cecil and TONTO to Montreal. TONTO (aka The Original New Timbral Orchestra) is the world's first (and still the largest) multitimbral polyphonic analog synthesizer.

Tonto's Expanding Head Band was the '70s electronic duo (Malcolm Cecil and Robert Margouleff) who operated it. Their 1971 album "Zero Time" influenced Stevie Wonder and others to start using synths. Here is an interview with Malcolm Cecil. Maybe Cecil will want to jam with us stupid kids?

I'll keep you posted about the whole TONTO thing.

Trevor was also nice enough to come check out our show at the Main Hall, although he ended up having to leave before we went on (lousy 1:00am showtime!).
