the first ad for Montreal's metro system

This was the first ad campaign for the Montreal Metro.
According to the Youtube post, it was made in 1976 at Atwater Metro Station.
Notice that the first notes of the song are the same notes that (some of) the trains make when starting to move out of the station! Check out the dancers too.
Excellent.

Graham Van Pelt

We love this man like a fat kid loves cake. I know you all must know Smooth GVP from Think About Life, Miracle Fortress, and a plethora of other delicious Montreal-based projects. Him and famous artist Jack Dylan have been our down-the-hall neighbours at Friendship Cove for a good while; although come Dec. 1 Telefauna will be leaving in favour of some new studio digs in the Outremont neighbourhood (closer to home).

ANYWAY: Expect a bangin club remix of Telefauna's track "The Latest Information" from this man soon. More information TBA y'all.

We think winter will see a new Telefauna release of some kind.

Graham is all over Myspace:

P.S.
Some person posted another short video clip of us on Youtube. This one is from over a year ago at La Sala Rossa in Montreal. The audio is really bad, but online video is always novel.
Here goes!

Telefauna and TONTO, together at last?

Last thursday I got to meet one of my scholarly idols, Trevor Pinch. Trevor works at Cornell and is famous for authoring Analog Days: The Invention and Impact of the Moog Synthesizer as well as The Social Construction of Technological Systems: New Directions in the Sociology and History of Technology. The latter being one of my fave tools for conducting material cultural analysis, fo sho. He was giving a lecture at McGill on the history of the Moog and we got to talking over beers afterwards. Get this: he might help us bring Malcolm Cecil and TONTO to Montreal. TONTO (aka The Original New Timbral Orchestra) is the world's first (and still the largest) multitimbral polyphonic analog synthesizer.

Tonto's Expanding Head Band was the '70s electronic duo (Malcolm Cecil and Robert Margouleff) who operated it. Their 1971 album "Zero Time" influenced Stevie Wonder and others to start using synths. Here is an interview with Malcolm Cecil. Maybe Cecil will want to jam with us stupid kids?

I'll keep you posted about the whole TONTO thing.

Trevor was also nice enough to come check out our show at the Main Hall, although he ended up having to leave before we went on (lousy 1:00am showtime!).

Something for Everyone; Nothing for Anyone

Hey there. This new blog looks mighty fine.

On November 28th, we Telefauna kids are all playing a show at the Divan Orange. Wierd thing is, Telefauna isn't going to play. We're all playing as our respective solo projects, plus a bunch of friends are playing, including Think About Life's Graham Van Pelt, playing as Miracle Fortress, or Fort Miracle, or maybe something entirely unexpected (he's been talking about playing dance and hip hop beats, but who knows?)Mixylodian (formerly of his and Katherine's project Dorian Hatchet), and also I'm doing beats for Lil Pip.

My solo project is Random Creature Generator, Adam's is Tel Quel, Ian is Goodman Goodman, and Katherine is something wierd that I forget (I'm a bad friend).

Telefauna's next show is during my art vernissage, which is titled "Tyler Was an Artist". It is my first vernissage! I'm playing as Random Creature Generator, and I'm playing with Lil Pip. It will be at the Green Room (5390 St.Laurent) on Friday DEC 1st. To see some works and read more about it go to My Neural Art!

with much love,
-tyler

Pop Montreal Compilation mistake

The version of our song "Tombstone" that appears on the compilation for Pop Montreal this year is not an official version. We don't really support the existence of this version. For some reason the last minute-and-a-bit of the song FADES OUT (ew!). Besides generally being of the opinion that fading out a song at the end is a totally cheap cop-out, this also means that the song doesn't climax at all, or even repeat the chorus, what a bore!

But, you can get that very track in mp3 format at 256kbps FOR FREE by clicking on this sentence. Please disseminate this version.

What a shame.

with love,

-tyler
